Yahoo! Women Who Shine Contest: Honor Amazing Women (Including my Aunt!)

Most of us are fortunate enough to be surrounded by amazing women. Whether it’s your mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend, or mentor, there are so many inspiring women that deserve recognition for all that they do. They are the talented problem-solvers, industry leaders, community advocates, exceptional parents, and fantastic friends. They are – the women who shine!

In honor of the world’s accomplished females, Yahoo! Shine is hosting the Women Who Shine 2012 contest, where you can recognize the ladies that have impacted your own life. The contest recognizes outstanding women in eight categories: Teacher, healer, mother, entrepreneur, activist, athlete, public service, and survivor. The variety of categories pays tribute to the multifaceted achievements of the females in our lives and gives a platform to recognize these accomplishments with. The nominations go up for a public vote, with the winner in each category receiving a $250 gift card and a featured article on Yahoo! Shine. And the woman who receives the most votes out of all the entries will win $10,000 to put towards her next big goal!

Last week, I nominated one of the deserving women in my life as a “Woman Who Shines” – my aunt Kim, who you all know well as the creator of D.O.G.G. Inspirational Bracelets. She is a shining example for sure! Kim is a busy entrepreneur, mom, and wife who devotes herself to community causes. Her motivation behind her business was to share what she is passionate about and raise funds for local youth programs at her church. With the sale of each beautifully handcrafted bracelet, $3.00 is donated to the Seaside Lighthouse Christian Church, of which Kim is an active member and volunteer. She has been working hard expanding her product line and placing her work locally for consignment in addition to selling it on Etsy. Voting runs now through October 26th, 2012. You may vote for as many women as you like, but you may only vote for each contestant once. You will need a Yahoo! account to vote.
