Fans of Wings and Paul McCartney are in for a treat with the newest re-release from the Paul McCartney Archive Collection, Wings Over America. This remastered version of the classic live album has been made available in a number of editions, from a standard CD/iTunes release to a Deluxe Edition Box Set for the collector. The advance copy which I received included the two-disc live album plus a DVD with the 1979 TV special “Wings Over The World”. Many fans, such as myself, will have never gotten the chance to see this before – and those who remember when it aired have probably not seen it in years, so what a delight to have a copy available now! The film is a concert interspersed with interview segments. The DVD also includes “Photographer’s Pass”, a photo montage set to music. And if that wasn’t enough, fans can also pick up the live concert “Rockshow” which has been released on DVD as well. I haven’t seen that one yet but I’m eager to!
The thing I love about the re-issues from the Paul McCartney Archive Collection is that they have been done with such care so as to please both longtime fans and newcomers alike. All of these releases are personal supervised by McCartney, which is why they sound so good. Even if you’re a “Vinyl snob” who owns the original records (As I am!), I think you’ll be pleased with how these albums have translated to CD, not to mention all the “Extras” and rarities that are included with each release; they make a great compliment to those original vinyl albums that we treasure. And of course, these re-releases help to introduce the music to a whole new generation of fans!
