It never ceases to amaze me how fast technology advances. I remember buying my first computer ten years ago, and I thought I was cool because I had a 325 MB hard drive. Now I have a terabyte of hard drive space! And it’s not just computers – Internet technology continues to develop as well. When I heard the term “PhatBand” in reference to Charter Communication’s High-Speed Internet Ultra60, I wondered what it meant. Did they mean “phat” as in “cool”? Sort of like calling it “CoolBand”? Possibly, because according to their website, this is a new kind of Internet service that they hope will blow your socks off. The Ultra60 is supposed to be one of the fastest Internet services in the US; it’s only available in St. Louis at the moment, but they plan to release it in other areas throughout 2009. They claim that DSL won’t be able to keep up with PhatBand – only time will tell if that is the case, but if you’re interested in more info, you can check out the Ultra60 Information Page. The website is only one page, because there’s not a lot of info available so far; I’m sure that it will expand as more areas get the service. In the meantime, if you’d like an example of why faster Internet would be nice, check out Charter’s Twitter Feed and see if you can open it without getting the Fail Whale.
