I’ve never used an electric toothbrush before. I always thought they’d be a little harsh, and I’m also picky about the type of brush heads I use because if they’re too big, I find that it’s hard to get around the gumline without the bristles hurting my gums. But I decided to be adventurous when I had the opportunity to test out VB Beauty’s Super Sonic Smile Toothbrush, since it was billed as a whitening system for teeth. Couldn’t hurt to try, right?
Well, I had a revelation using this toothbrush and I actually prefer it to regular toothbrushes now – I was not expecting that! This unit comes with a charging base, 3 brush heads, 1 brush handle, and a UV sanitizing chamber. You store the brush heads inside the sanitizing compartment, and attach to the brush handle once you’re ready to use. When you’re done, put the brush back in its holder and place the lid on top. This activates an 8-minute UV sanitizing light – I LOVE this feature because I’m fastidious about making sure my toothbrush is clean. In fact, I used to throw my disposable toothbrushes away a lot – it felt wasteful, but if I feel like they’ve gotten icky I don’t want to use them. I did have lids on my old toothbrushes, and yet one day when I opened my toothbrush a few months back, a bug had crawled inside. How, I couldn’t tell you, but you better believe it went into the trash! So, I love that this unit both seals the brush heads in completely and goes through a sanitizing program.
Once you are ready to brush, you can turn the handle on to vibrate at two different speeds. The handle sits in a charger with the UV chamber, which plugs into the wall. I thought this brush would be too much for me, especially since I have somewhat sensitive gums, but to my surprise it hasn’t caused any irritation at all. In fact, it does an awesome job of removing plaque and I can definitely tell that my teeth are cleaner from using it, which is fantastic! I’ve only used the low setting, but since I’ve been using it for around a month I think I feel comfortable trying the high setting more often. When it’s on high it feels a little like a jackhammer, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
As whitening goes, this did remove some plaque as I mentioned above, but I don’t think there’s been a huge difference in whitening; remember, I’ve been using it on the low setting. I need to visit a dentist soon both for a full cleaning and a professional whitening, since my teeth have such splotchy stains on them. However, anything that can clean better than a standard toothbrush is aces in my book and I do feel that this cleans a bit more thoroughly than a manual toothbrush is capable of, which makes my teeth both look and feel better. The only complaint I have is that the metal faceplate fell off the brush after about a month. Luckily, it doesn’t affect the usage. There was a warranty included but I think Jai might have accidentally tossed it out while we were renovating – but that’s OK, the brush still works. 😉
Do you use an electric or manual toothbrush?
I’d totally love this for my fam! I can see it making the kids at least more interested in brushing, too!
I used to have an electronic toothbrush, but the kind I bought didn’t have anything to sanitize it and the replacement heads were outrageously expensive. I went back to manual, but I would switch again if I could find one that’s affordable to upkeep.
This sounds like a great toothbrush!
Sounds like a great toothbrush! I prefer a manual toothbrush myself.
