I had never heard of a “Roughneck” before until I saw this trailer for truTV BLACK GOLD. This reality show comes from the creators of “Deadliest Catch”, and follows this crew of oil drillers – also known as “roughnecks” – as they are given 50 days to drill four challenging holes in West Texas. And judging from the clip above, the truTV BLACK GOLD characters have their work cut out for them. I don’t know the first thing about oil drilling or the “Roughneck culture”, but I’m a confessed reality-TV junkie, so I might check this out if I ever get a chance to watch the truTV channel. This program looks pretty intense – oil drilling is high-risk occupation, and these guys face enormous dangers on the job. Roughnecks are expected to put up with a lot, as you can see in this clip from the series, “truTV BLACK GOLD Healthcare“. Obviously not a good place to have nasal problems!
I do find it fascinating to learn about different trades, so it could be interesting to see what “Roughnecking” is all about. And here’s a bit of trivia for you – one of the pipe salesmen on the show is actor Matthew McConaughey’s brother, Michael “Rooster†McConaughey.
