Have you seen this commercial for truTV yet? I have to say, it gave me a chuckle. I often feel the same way when I watch TV, but fortunately for those around me I don’t yell like he does – my frustration is silent!
TruTV has put out a series of ads in this vein under the header of “the truTV effect“, urging viewers to “Watch truTV with caution, because when the stories are real, the effect is actual.” There’s a second truTV video on their website that shows a viewer who whacks everyone sitting next to him, screaming “OOH!” every time something exciting happens. Thankfully, I don’t know anyone who acts this annoying when they watch TV! Most of my friends are more like mumblers, rolling their eyes and gasping with exasperation when something frustrating happens. I’m a silent cringer – I wince and shield my eyes when unpleasant things flash on the screen.
I don’t have the truTV network, but I think the show that would get the most reaction out of me would be “The Forensic Files”, because it’s all about real crime. Forensic science is fascinating to me, but I can’t bear to watch those type of programs because hearing about tragedies is just too much for me to stomach.
So what kind of TV viewer are you? Do you yell at the screen when the characters do something dumb? Do you smack the person sitting next to you and exclaim, “Did you SEE that?!”? Or do you just quietly wince, like me?
