As a child growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, I was a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. When I opened my mail recently, I found a DVD of the new Nickelodeon reboot of TMNT, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Turtles, and naturally I had to watch it for old times’ sake. I had caught part of a 2009 TV movie called Turtles Forever from the second animated series that I had actually quite enjoyed, so I was curious to see what this newest-of-the-new version would be like.
Rise of the Turtles is the third incarnation of the animated series, featuring CGI versions of the turtles; I noticed a lot of anime influences in the cartoon style and gags in this series. The storyline has been simplified, and some of the noticeable changes include the fact that April ‘O Neil is now a teenage girl. I wasn’t too crazy about the way the characters were written, but this show isn’t for me, it’s for young kids, who I am sure will enjoy it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Turtles is available on Amazon for $7.99. A promotional DVD was received for review consideration.
My son loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I NEED THIS! What a fun idea for family movie night!
my son would probably love it!
The artwork on the cover looks pretty neat. I think the old Ninja Turtles were the best. That’s funny how the age the cartoon characters.
