Organic Canadian Raw Honey – Review & Pork Glaze Recipe

Organic Canadian Raw Honey

I love trying out new foods and recipes, and because I work frequently with Tropical Traditions, I’ve had the chance to create many lovely dishes using their ingredients. Today, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Tropical Traditions’ Organic Canadian Raw Honey!

I’ve never tried raw honey before, so I was interested to see how this would be different. It appears to be very solid in the jar, so I assumed it would be difficult to work with, but it’s actually quite soft – in fact, I found this consistency to be easier to measure out than processed honey, which seems to alternate from being too runny to a hardened brick.

Pork Glaze

I got a great deal on a shoulder of pork, so for my first experiment, I decided to make a honey glazed roast. I did a quick Google search and modified this honey glaze recipe on AllRecipes.com – I substituted two of the ingredients for what I had on hand. I combined the following in a large bowl:

1/3 cup Organic Canadian Raw Honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar

Pork Glaze

I popped the bowl into the microwave for about a minute to melt the honey, and drizzled the sauce over the roast. I then added carrots and corn, and baked at 350 degrees until the ham was finished (About an hour and a half/two hours). The sauce was absolutely lovely!

For lunch this afternoon, I decided to make an old favorite: Peanut butter and honey sandwiches. For the bread, I used slices of my Coconut Flour Breadmaker Loaf made with Tropical Traditions Coconut Flour – this time, I switched up my recipe a little bit, and used vital wheat gluten flour in place of the eggs for the binding agent. It turned out well – perfect sandwich bread! If you’re curious, the adaptation was 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup coconut flour, and 1/2 cup gluten flour; all other ingredients remained the same.

Peanut butter and honey

Jai and I really enjoyed these sandwiches. We agreed that this raw honey actually tastes a bit sweeter than regular processed honey; it has a very nice flavor. I’m a big raw honey fan now – it is delicious and so much easier to use than processed honey!

  1. Wow, this looks really good! I never know what to do with pork so we don’t buy it but this looks like a recipe I could try. And I REALLY want this raw honey, too. 🙂

How did you know I’m pregnant and think of nothing but food? lol

  2. WOW! really interesting! i didn’t know that about the consistency of the honey. and your dinner looks delish! i’ll be over in 10 ;0) LOL

  3. Holy yum! I agree with your comment about honey either being too runny or hard as rock. I’m on Weight Watchers and alwys looking for recipes. I’ll have to see how many points this one is.
