You guys know by now that I’m a big Power Rangers nerd. I’ve been enjoying the recent Samurai/Super Samurai incarnation of the series – since I don’t have cable anymore, I’ve been wanting to catch up on the finale of the series, since I’ve only caught bits and pieces of the series out of order. While I wait for the rest of it to come to Netflix, DVDs are a good way of catching episodes!
I recently received a copy of Power Rangers Super Samurai: Secret of The Red Ranger to check out, and I was looking forward to finally finding out what Red Ranger’s “Big secret” has been this whole time. So what is it? Click on the blurred text to reveal my review including the spoiler!
[spoiler]The four episodes on this DVD are pretty epic, culminating in the big reveal of Red Ranger’s secret: He’s not really the leader of the Power Rangers. His sister Lauren is the “True” Red Ranger and has been in hiding since childhood, mastering her skills so that she can seal the bad guys away forever. This is the first time I personally have seen a female Red Ranger – maybe they’ve done it in other incarnations of the show, but I haven’t kept up – so I thought that was pretty awesome!
Because Jayden wants the other Power Rangers to follow their “Real” leader Lauren, he leaves the team in a dramatic production. He feels that if he stays, the other Rangers will make mistakes on the battlefield because they are too loyal to him. You’d think the other Rangers wouldn’t be that dumb, but maybe they are, since Jayden’s departure tears them apart and they all make motions to leave. I get that they miss their friend, but at this point, you think they’d be more concerned with stopping the monsters from splitting the Earth in half, since Lauren has the ability to banish them forever. This collection includes just four episodes: “The Master Returns”, “A Crack in the World”, “Stroke of Fate”, and “Fight Fire with Fire”. It ends on a big cliffhangers, so parents be warned! I get that most people who own this have already watched it on TV, but be aware if you’re TV-less like me and watching the DVDs as a way to keep up. I’ll have to wait until the next release to find out what happens to the gang after the big secret came out! 😉

My third oldest used to love Power Rangers, and the red ranger was his favorite. He had the mask and used to dress up when he watched them. I can’t believe how long they have been around.
