In the DVD collection Power Rangers Samurai: The Sixth Ranger – Vol 4, released earlier this month, we follow the storyline of the mysterious Gold Ranger who eventually joins the Power Rangers Samurai team. This aspiring ranger, Antonio, was a childhood friend of Red Ranger and trained for years on his own with the aim of joining the team, although he was not born a samurai. This is one of those story arcs where I seemed to catch the same segment of the same episode on TV all the time, but never actually saw the end, so it was entertaining to see it all in its entirety. The storylines are as adorably cheesy as ever, with one of the plots centering around the Power Rangers attempting to stop the evil Nighlok monsters from destroying children’s favorite toys. The plan was to cause children to cry and cause a cascade of tears that would flood the Earth, naturally! I also love the addition of Gold Ranger for his zords, which include an octopus zord that shoots ink and a lobster zord with snapping claws. Absolutely nothing has changed in this show since I was a kid and that’s why it’s still awesome! In fact, one of the extra features is a short Q&A with the actors, and the show has been on for so long at this point that the actors all grew up as Power Rangers fans themselves.
The actor Q&A is a segment I hadn’t seen before, but be warned that many of the extra features – the blooper reel and the “Train Like a Ranger” segments – can be found on other DVDs, including Clash of The Red Rangers which I also reviewed. Indeed, the only complaint that I have with this DVD is that it’s a little sparse – there’s only 4 episodes, a trend which I am really noticing in children’s DVD collections. If I were to buy a DVD set, I would personally want to wait and get the whole season, but that’s me.
Power Rangers Samurai: The Sixth Ranger – Volume 4 is available now on Amazon.
My kids loved the Power Rangers when they were younger. I’ll have to ask if they want to see this one too.
So fun! My son used to love the Power Rangers.
My son used to really like them, but I must admit that I’d be hard pressed to lay the cash out for just 4 episodes.
How fun! I agree that it would be nice to have all episodes on one DVD but maybe they did that because kids have such a short attention span? Either way, it sounds like a great DVD for the Power Rangers fans.
Oooh my nephew would just love this!!! I know a few little guys that would, actually. 🙂
Ahhh, I remember these guys. Very cool!
Ooooh! I know my friend’s son will be over the moon when I share this with him!
i think my nephew would love this!
my nephew LOVED power rangers as a kid. he’s almost 28. now my 5 year old is loving it too!
My son is only 5, but he might like the Power Rangers when he is a little older. Right now he likes the shows on Disney Junior and the Sprout channel.
