Seasoning can make or break a dish, transforming the dull into the delicious. So when I was introduced to a new-to-me seasoning line by Outer Spice, I was intrigued; the fact that they offer spices with low or no salt was a definite selling point, since one of the things they emphasized to us while doing Nutrisystem is to cut out salt. I was anxious to try out the Outer Spice Spicy, which is a blend of seasonings from garlic to red pepper with zero salt content. It lives up to its name, giving a delicious spicy kick to anything it gets added to. I found myself sprinkling this on hummus and enjoying with sweet bell peppers, and also adding to unsalted peanuts, which are a great healthy protein snack but a little dry to my tastes on their own. I have to say, I found Outer Spice Spicy to be addictive and so delicious – it really did make a difference and added interest to some foods that were getting a little bland to me. Yum!

I also had the opportunity to try out the Original Outer Spice Low-Salt blend. This came in handy when I was preparing a big batch of gluten-free tabbouleh, since Outer Spice just so happens to be gluten-free as well! The recipe calls for salt and black pepper, and since this Original Blend is a mix of Himalayan Sea Salt, black pepper, onion, garlic, and other yummy seasonings, I thought it would be the perfect one-stop spice for the recipe.
