Many people don’t know this, but I started training in martial arts in 2000. That’s actually how Jai and I met – he moved to Oregon from Arizona in 2002 and resumed his training, so we met during class. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to train since 2005 for a lot of reasons, mainly due to my work schedule and, more recently, blowing out my knees. It doesn’t seem like it was very long ago at all until I stop and actually do the math! I’ve never really felt like I “Stopped” since I have always planned to start again as soon as I could. Call it an extended hiatus! 😉
So when I received an email introducing me to the Suwit Muay Thai Training Gym, it made me extra wistful for the days when I was able to train regularly! I’ve sparred with Muay Thai fighters before, and they are famous for those brutal shin kicks. The Suwit Muay Thai Training Gym offers a unique experience in that it’s a combination vacation and martial arts boot camp. Based in Phuket, Thailand, the facility offers rooms onsite and nearby for patrons to stay while training in Muay Thai twice a day. I think that this could be a really cool opportunity! It’s certainly something that would be worth further careful research for someone who had the resources and interest to take a martial arts vacation. They mention “Honeymoons” as a reason to visit – wouldn’t that be a fitting honeymoon for Jai and I, considering how we met? 😉
This sounds like so much fun! I would love to try Muay Thai.
