A lot of people don’t know this, but Jai is a self-taught pianist, and was inspired to start playing because of his love of Chopin. I recently had the opportunity to review a promo copy of The Chopin Album by Lang Lang, which I thought would make a fun Christmas gift for someone as invested in Chopin’s music as Jai.
Lang Lang is a renowned pianist who, like Jai and countless other pianists, has been heavily inspired and influenced by the brilliant works of Chopin. The Chopin Album is a tribute to this, covering many well-loved pieces of music that will be recognized by casual listeners as well as classical enthusiasts. The album opens with No.1 in A-Flat Major, which I recognized immediately as being the song that Jai plays almost every day. This is a part of the second set of Chopin’s Études (op. 25), which are performed in addition to three Nocturnes, Waltz op. 64 no. 1, and other works.
There is no doubt that Lang Lang is a brilliantly talented pianist, and I enjoyed hearing his performance of these pieces. Each pianist has their own unique way of interpreting and performing Chopin so it’s interesting to me to hear the influences of each performer. I think any music lover who has a taste for Chopin or classic music in general would find this album to be enjoyable.
Lang Lang: The Chopin Album is available now on Amazon for $12.25. Also, on October 30th at 6:30 PM, Lang Lang will be hosting a one-night-only concert at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium to raise money for the Lang Lang International Music Foundation – click here to visit LangLangFoundation.com for more information.
I love to listen to Chopin and am sure I would love this. It is amazing that so many movies choose classical pieces to use which makes them identifiable to a causal classical music listener with out realizing who the composer was of the piece. This sounds like a great gift and a very affordable price.
Thanks for sharing. I just looked this up on amazon and 5 stars.
I love to unwind to amazing music like Chopin. I’m sure Lang Lang does justice to these classics!
