Cookbooks make an excellent gift for foodies; but what about newbies? If you have a cooking novice on your list – be it a bachelor, student, or anyone else just getting started in their domestic life – then check out Kitchen 101 by Holly Clegg. Packed with delicious recipes and beautiful full-color photos, this book aims to help beginners by going over the basics of cooking with substitution & equivalent charts, with special symbols throughout the book to highlight which recipes are diabetic-friendly, vegetarian, can be made in the crockpot, or are freezer-friendly. How cool is that? I love the mouth-watering recipes like the Chicken Fajita Pizza and Shrimp & Artichoke Pasta, and appreciate the nutritional info which is provided for the dishes. This is an easy, appetizing cookbook which I think would be a really appreciated as a gift – heck, I’ve been cooking for a long time and I’m still enjoying this! There are two chapters dedicated to slowcooker recipes and also recipes using rotisserie chicken, which I love, since both things are so handy for quick meals! Busy people and bachelors will both appreciate this one!
The only thing I should mention is that I noticed one of the recipes for Easy Meat Sauce that was marked “Crockpot” didn’t mention how to adapt it; in the other recipes this isn’t an issue, since it’s self-explanatory (Dishes cooked in a large stockpot), but this one isn’t as clear to me since it includes meat and many recipes call for pre-cooking meat before adding to a crockpot, so I’m not entirely sure if the whole thing is meant to be put into the slow cooker or not. It would be easy enough for me to figure out – and I may be missing the obvious here! – but I thought I’d point it out since this is cookbook for beginners and it’s something that may not be clear to them. I have only recently begun crockpot cooking myself!
