The Shred Sled is becoming one of the most talked-about gift items for 2009, and it’s no surprise. This innovative skateboard is has been billed as “The future of extreme sports”, aiming to combine elements of snowboarding and surfing with the everyday ride of a skateboard. I may have this listed under the “Gifts for Teens” category, but The Shred Sled’s appeal spans generations. When UPS dropped off the box containing a Shred Sled for me to review, my 30-year-old cousin happened to be here visiting. When I opened the box, he yelled, “YOU GOT ONE OF THOSE?! I want one of those so bad!!! Can I see it? Can I go ride it?”. If the Shred Sled can make adults giddy with excitement, imagine how much young people will enjoy it!
I’ve never ridden skateboards before – in fact, I’m so lame that I’ve never gone so far as to ride on rollerskates. I was able to scoot along on the Shred Sled while balancing against the wall, but I knew we’d want people with more expertise to give it a go as well. Since my cousin was begging to try it out, we decided to head down to the local skate park and get some feedback from the pros. Everyone at the skate park responded with enthusiasm when they saw The Shred Sled, gathering around us to check it out and ride it.
This is a young skater that we met at the park. With his mom’s permission, we’re able to share this guest V-log where he tells us his thoughts on The Shred Sled!
Here’s The Shred Sled in action.
We talked with a panel of experts at the skate park – IE, several tweens and teens – and this is their critique of the Shred Sled:
- It’s faster and wider than a Ripstick
- Would like it to be able to go backwards
- Should have a kick tail
- Easy to ride
- Would be nice if the middle had metal to grind on
- Good for “Chillaxing”
I wholeheartedly recommend The Shred Sled as a gift – I know it would make an awesome present, because every time I have company now, the first question out of their mouths is, “Can I ride your Shred Sled?”
The Shred Sled retails for approximately $119.99 and is available nationwide – click here for a list of retailers.
Even skateboards are getting so high tech! Great review – especially with the video – you can really see it in action. My daughter doesn’t have a skateboard, but she loves using the one at her friend’s.
(Although *eek* – the mom in me was thinking “where’s your helmet, kid?”)
You did an excellent review. I was terrified of the thing
How fun! Is it sad that I would love to get one of these for myself?! I think they look like a blast.
