Children love music, so putting a CD under the tree is a great idea for a present. But why not give yourself the gift of a children’s album that won’t make you batty? Lanny Sherwin is on a mission to make intelligent, fun songs that the whole family will love – and he would like to give two lucky Contest Corner readers a copy of his latest album, Meltdown, so read on!
My take:
With the demand for children’s music continuing to grow, artists are beginning to realize: You don’t have to make a cheesy record just because it’s for kids. Why not make something that appeals to both the young and the young-at-heart? Kids love repetition, and you can be sure that their favorite songs will be played again…and again…and again. It seems only fair to make something that parents will be able to tolerate repeat play of!
“Don’t Drive Parents Crazy!” is the motto of singer-songwriter Lanny Sherwin, who produces a line of hip children’s CDs through his label, Sandman Records. I knew this wasn’t going to be your average collection of lullabies when I saw the Salvador Dali- inspired artwork! I was eager to give it a spin and see what it was all about. This easy-going rock album aims to be more Jimmy Buffet than Jimmy Neutron, and blends catchy riffs with lighthearted lyrics – Sherwin’s clever approach and solid songwriting skills deliver a tongue-in-cheek effort that will have the whole family clamoring for more. Parents surely won’t go crazy listening to this album, and the critics agree: Meltdown was just honored with the prestigious Dr. Toy “Top Ten CDs/DVDs of 2009” award.
Win it!

I love the Monster Masher! What a cute song. We’ve got our 3 kids plus my 2 nieces living with us now, so we’re always looking for fresh new music for some freeze dancing fun!
I’m going to coat-tail on what “Very Evolved†said… The way you connect to your audience is… Know who you are writing to. You need to pick a Target Audience and stick to them. You wouldn’t write to an audience of 14yr olds the same way you would write to an audience of 60yr olds.
Me and my friend were arguing about an issue similar to this! Now I know that I was right. lol! Thanks for the information you post.
I admit, I have not been on this webpage in a long time… however it was another joy to see It is such an important topic and ignored by so many, even professionals. I thank you to help making people more aware of possible issues.
