The Glamour of Grammar: A Guide to the Magic and Mystery of Practical English By Roy Peter Clark is a lively, compelling book about a topic many people dread: Grammar. And three lucky Contest Corner readers will win a copy of this book, so read on!
About The Glamour of Grammar:
Early in the history of English, the words “grammar” and “glamour” meant the same thing: the power to charm. Roy Peter Clark, author of Writing Tools, aims to put the glamour back in grammar with this fun, engaging alternative to stuffy instructionals. In this practical guide, readers will learn everything from the different parts of speech to why effective writers prefer concrete nouns and active verbs. THE GLAMOUR OF GRAMMAR gives readers all the tools they need to “live inside the language”–to take advantage of grammar to perfect their use of English, to instill meaning, and to charm through their writing.
About The Author:
Roy Peter Clark is vice president and senior scholar at The Poynter Institute, one of the most prestigious schools for journalists in the world. He has taught writing at every level–to schoolchildren and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors–for more than thirty years, and has spoken about the writer’s craft on The Oprah Winfrey Show, NPR, and The Today Show; at conferences from Singapore to Brazil; and at news organizations from the New York Times to The Sowetan in South Africa. A writer who teaches and a teacher who writes, he has authored or edited fifteen books about writing and journalism, including his most recent, Writing Tools.
Grammar is a topic that is generally thought of as dry and tedious – but Roy Peter Clark wants to change that notion. In The Glamour of Grammar, Clark takes the reader on an entertaining journey through the history of English, providing practical tips and lessons for improving prose. This book is a fun read for any word nerd and a useful tool for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge and better their writing. Clark’s humorous writing style sets this apart from ponderous tomes and makes it interesting and accessible for all readers.

I somehow have been fascinated with grammar and the English language my whole life. I’d love to win this and learn some more.
I enjoy reading books on grammar. I have five that stay on my desk. Some authors explain certain concepts more clearly or are better ordered, while others simply have an enjoyable voice.
I would like to win because I have always been interested in grammar. I am one of those annoying people who correct other people’s grammar. Thanks for the chance.
