A few days before New Year’s Eve, I received a package in the mail containing two complimentary bottles of Florio’s Marsala wines. Talk about great timing! Jai and I had planned a relaxing evening in, and this looked like the perfect thing to ring in 2012 with.
Marsala is a wine that is only produced in the vicinity of the Italian city of the same name. It is usually enjoyed with food as an apéritif or dessert wine, and is often used in cooking. Florio prides themselves on their fine wines, so I was looking forward to trying their Marsala. I received a bottle of both Florio Marsala Dry and Florio Marsala Sweet.
Florio’s Marsala is packaged in 375 ML bottles that come with a cork attached to a plastic top for ease of opening and storing. I love the fact that these are easy to re-seal, since this wine is intended to be savored in smaller quantities and thus will stay in your fridge or cabinet slightly longer than other wines. Marsala is a unique wine with a flavor that is almost reminiscent of a sherry – the sweet Marsala was our favorite of the two, with a lovely and pleasing taste. We enjoyed the dry as well but as it is tart, it does not go down as smoothly as the sweet, at least for my palate.
Jai and I thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to Florio – we used our glasses of Marsala to make a midnight toast for the New Year, so it will always be in my memory. Learn more about Florio wines by visiting their official website.
This sounds good. I use a lot of wine in cooking so this would be a perfect addition to my kitchen.
A great way to remember a good wine!
Wow you got your wine just in time 🙂 I don’t know much about wine, but I know my dad likes it, I’ll have to tell him about these!
I don’t drink but my Mom would love this!
I have learned last year that I like some of the white wines. Since I love to cook, I do want to incorporate some wine into some of my recipes.
one of my favorite meals is chicken marsala – i love the sauce (thanks to the wine!) these sound sooo good 🙂 happy new year !
Sounds good. I’m not a wine drinker but no many who love marsala!
I don’t drink, and I know absolutely nothing about wine, but I was telling my husband yesterday that I really need to buy some cooking wines. There are so many wonderful recipes that call for wine. Thanks for the little lesson on Marsala. 🙂
I love to enjoy a nice glass of wine at night and am always looking for new brands to try! Thanks for sharing!
I’ll be sure to try this one next time, thanks for the review!
Oh, I will have to check this out! I’ve actually never had Marsala wine. I looooove sweet wine–I mix Sprite into the dry kind because I’m classy like that. 🙂
Sounds delicious Beeb! I was asleep at 12 on New Years though..ahhha!
