Now that we’re in the thick of holiday season, you’re more than likely going to be run off your feet and seriously considering leftover cookie dough as a viable dinner option rather than having to cook. 😉 Let us help! One lucky Contest Corner reader will win coupons good for TEN free Contessa World Cuisine convenience meals for two, and another reader will win 15 $2-off coupons, so read on!
I recently received an envelope containing coupons for free Contessa World Cuisine, so that I could taste-test these meals and share my thoughts. Since Jai and I are both on a diet plan with pre-prepared & pre-portioned food, we thought it would be fun to take these over to Grandma’s house to cook dinner for her. That way, we could have a small sampling ourselves and leave the rest for her to enjoy – we all know how handy leftovers are for lunches!
We stopped by our local Safeway store and mulled over which varieties to get. We decided on Mongolian Beef and Sesame Chicken, which we thought sounded yummy! We redeemed our coupons and headed over to Grandma’s to try these out.
Each bag contained frozen meat and vegetables, sauce, and a bag of rice. Since these are “Meals for two” and there were three of us, I thought I’d cook both bags at the same time. In retrospect, it would have been easier if I’d just done one at a time instead of trying to manage two skillets and timers at once; but it all worked out! To prepare the Mongolian Beef, you heat the pan up with oil and cook the meat for a few minutes, then add the vegetables and the sauce; the bag of rice is cooked in the microwave. The Sesame Chicken is slightly easier to prepare, as you don’t have to pre-cook the meat.
To serve, I decided to scoop a helping of both varieties of rice – one came with white, one came with brown – on each plate, as well as a sampling of both the beef and chicken. There was enough for all three of us plus leftovers – granted, Jai and I are eating smaller portions because of our diet plan, but I still managed to stuff myself pretty well. 😉 We all agreed that the portions were a good size – for a couple that wants a complete dinner in a bag, this is pretty awesome!
So, onto the food itself. We all agreed that both varieties were very delicious – the Mongolian Beef was both mine and Jai’s favorite. There is a generous helping of garlic pieces in this one, and I love garlic so that alone was enough to make me a fan; and I also loved the delicious beef. Grandma, on the other hand, said that the Sesame Chicken was her favorite overall. No matter which one you choose, they’re a winner taste-wise!
