Conserve Cleaners are a unique new line of household cleaners that aim to be a “green” alternative to traditional standbys. I’m always looking for ways to improve my cleaning routine, so when Conserve offered to send me samples of their products to test out, I was happy to take them up on it.
Conserve Cleaners come with one plastic bottle and four cleaning tablets. You add these to water, and they dissolve like Alka-Seltzer to form the cleaning solution. I thought this was a novel concept and love how it saves plastic and space on my shelf.
My biggest concern was how powerful the cleaner would be, so I decided to put it to the test on a secondhand oven that I had just bought.
As with all used appliances, this oven was in need of a thorough cleaning, as you can see in these “before” pictures:
I used the Conserve Multi-Surface Cleaner on the top and sides, and the Conserve Glass & Window Cleaner on the oven window. Here’s the stove top after being scrubbed down with Conserve:
The Multi-Surface Cleaner is more powerful than I would have thought, but you need to put more elbow grease into it. To be fair, I used a regular old sponge to clean the stove, as I didn’t happen to have a scrubber on hand.
Here is the stove after I used Fantastik spray cleaner on it:
As you can see, this got a lot of dirt out that the Conserve didn’t. However, Fantastik is a heavy-duty spray specifically meant for tough cleaning jobs – I imagine it would perform better than your average all-purpose cleaner of any variety.
All in all, I think the Multi-Surface Cleaner is pretty good. If I have a particularly tough mess to tackle, I still use my usual Windex Antibacterial spray, but for day-to-day cleaning of kitchen counters, stove tops, and the like, I use Conserve.
I love the fresh scent of these cleaners – they are unobtrusive and don’t bowl you over. One thing I noticed was that after spraying Fantastik all over the stove, the kitchen reeked of chemicals, where it did not after using the Conserve.
I also tried out the Odor Neutralizer and Bathroom Cleaner. When I clean my living room, I always like to use fabric spray on the couch to freshen the upholstery. The odor eliminator has a lovely lavender scent that adds a nice finishing touch to the room; also, since it doesn’t have that overpowering chemical odor that most cleaners do, I was able to use it when I had a head cold without it bothering my sinuses.
I used the bathroom spray in my tub, and it worked pretty well. Again, I think these cleaners require a little more scrubbing than standard ones, and I would probably want to use something a little more heavy duty on the shower since soap scum builds up so fast. However, this worked great for cleaning the top of the sink and around the toilet.
In all, I think Conserve is on to a great idea with the reusable bottle and tablet-form cleaners, and I’ll be curious to see how this line develops. Although these cleaners aren’t quite as strong as what I might normally use, they also aren’t as noxious; I may not replace my old standbys with these, but I have definitely used them to supplement my normal cleaning routine.
I am always looking for new greener products, thanks for the review!
