chicBuds are a “Fashion-forward electronics company” which carry a line of stylish headphones and speakers. I recently had the opportunity to review a chicBoom Blue Leopard Keychain Speaker, a miniature speaker designed to work with most MP3 and CD players.
This mini-speaker is small enough to hook on to your keyring, and it’s super cute. It has a leopard print design with blue trim and a heart-shaped speaker embellished with sparkly crystals. This is a great girly accessory – it even comes in a charming tin (Can you say “Holiday gift”?). At first I thought that this product might be wireless, since the speaker comes on a keychain, but it actually hooks into your MP3 player via a cord – the keychain is intended simply to make it easier to transport this wherever you go.
The leaflet says this is compatible with iPod and iPhones, but something important to point out is that the standard 3.5 mm stereo jack that is included does not fit in a first-generation iPhone, which is what I have. It slots into the iPhone but does not receive sound – I’ve encountered this issue with other most other headphones and attachments, and we’ve actually had to use a Dremel to file our cords down in order for the plug to make a connection and receive sound; so we actually used one of our own modified plugs instead.
I was a little skeptical as to how well this little speaker would work, but it actually does a nice job of amplifying the sound of my iPhone. I’m listening to some of my favorite songs through it as I write this! It’s a cute product and would be a nice thing to have while on the go. When I was a teenager, I remember being at a slumber party where one of my friends brought out her portable CD player and turned the volume up all the way so that everyone could listen the music through her headphones, and we all sat around straining our ears to hear it! If only we had the chicBoom Keychain Speaker back then. 😀

That is pretty cool – I would love something like to listen to the radio at work on my phone. They have this new rule that you can’t have any radios at work – but nights and saturdays I work all by myself!
Wow! That’s pretty cool. It reminds me of an SNL sketch where they poke fun at the cell phones getting smaller and smaller. Only this time, it’s the speakers.
What a neat little speaker! Much more convenient than sharing ear buds, two people each using one bud.
