Canker Cover – Review & Giveaway

Canker sores are a lot of things, but “fun” isn’t one of them. Fed up with canker sores and want to try a treatment for them? One Contest Corner reader will win a box of Canker Cover, so read on!

About Canker Cover:

Here’s some information on Canker Cover from their press release:

“Canker sores are painful blisters that form on the inside of the mouth, cheeks, and inner lips, as well as on the tongue, affecting 56 million people annually. If left untreated, they can last from seven to 21 days, causing pain each time you eat, drink, chew, or move your mouth. While nobody knows for sure what causes canker sores, possibilities include increased stress, lower immunity, trauma (e.g. cheek bites, irritation from braces, etc.), vitamin B12 or iron deficiencies, hormonal changes or food allergies.

Canker Cover is the only over-the-counter canker sore treatment shown in clinical studies to significantly speed treatment. The pill shaped patch adheres to the sore and forms a gel patch that protects the sore, relieves the pain, and speeds treatment. In two separate clinical studies, Canker Cover was shown to heal most canker sores within 24 hours and to be more effective than benzocaine, the active ingredient in most canker sores products, at eliminating pain. No other canker sore products in the world have shown this result.

Canker Cover is also made from natural ingredients including natural menthol, citrus oil and sea salt, which dissolves over time, offering immediate pain relief upon application while covering and protecting the lesion from bacteria and other irritants (e.g., movement, food, drink, orthodontia/dental appliances, etc.) for eight to 12 hours. Canker Cover provides immediate and long-lasting pain relief by steadily releasing pain-numbing menthol and other ingredients on the sore. In most cases, one patch completely treats a canker sore within 24 hours. Suggested retail price is $9.99 for a box of six patches; available at drug stores, supermarkets and health food stores nationwide, and online at www.cankercover.com.”

My take:

Jai and I both tried this out, with very different results. I used this on a canker sore on the side of my cheek, and I could feel the disc prominently because of the awkward position it was in. I waited for perhaps an hour and then attempted to eat dinner, as the canker sore had just occurred that evening. I wasn’t able to chew properly because of the Canker Cover, so I finally had to pry it off, which just made the irritation worse.

On the other end of the spectrum, Jai noticed a canker sore just getting started at the bottom of his lip. I gave him a Canker Cover and advised him to use it just before going to bed, because I felt like that might have made it easier when I tried to use it. He applied it, and although he could feel the disc, he didn’t encounter the same issues I did, probably because of the location of the canker sore. It did seem to help soothe the pain, so Jai’s experience was a positive one. As with all things, your mileage may vary!

  1. I learned that 20% of people suffer from recurrent canker sores–and women are afflicted more frequently than men. My younger son has a terrible problem with canker sores; I’d love for him to try these. Thanks!

  2. What I learned was that unlike your results, a doctor said, the canker cover “afforded excellent protection from food and drink irritants.”
