Several years ago, I was able to visit Cognac, France. I had a great time and had a very memorable experience touring a distillery that was located in an old castle! However, the town of Cognac is not the only place that produces the spirit. It can also be found in the Ile de Ré, an island off the west coast of France where CAMUS Cognac is based. I haven’t had Cognac since my last trip to France, so I was looking forward to tasting what CAMUS sent me! There were three bottles: Ile de Ré Cliffside Cellar Cognac, Ile de Ré Double Matured Cognac, and Ile de Ré Fine Island Cognac, each one with a progressively stronger flavor than the last.
Of the three, the Cliffside Cellar was our favorite. I found it to be sweet yet strong, almost like the taste of sherry. Jai said he found it to be the lightest of the three, smooth and sweet. The Double Matured starts off sweet and then becomes strong and tart, while the Fine Island is very strong with just a tiny hint of sweetness. Jai usually isn’t all that keen on the taste of alcohol, but we both enjoyed these very much. It was a pleasure to learn of this Cognac from the Ile de Ré!
If you father enjoys fine Cognac, a bottle of CAMUS is sure to delight. Learn more at Camus.fr.
