Cacao Dark is a unique new “Weight Management Chocolate” product. Yes, I said chocolate! This product is a supplement that you take before breakfast and lunch, which contains 6 grams of fiber, caffeine, and “Chocamine”, which according to the label, is “A patented cocoa extract that boasts all of the benefits of chocolate without the sugar or fat, combined with a unique fiber that may help curb hunger and help limit eating between meals.” However, that statement has not been evaluated by the FDA.
To be honest, I don’t believe that any diet pills can really give you miraculous results. If that were the case, we’d all be doing it, right? So my main motivation to try Cacao Dark was actually that I loved the idea of drinking caffeinated chocolate – doesn’t that sound wonderful?! – and be able to justify it as part of my “diet”! I was very excited to taste it when it arrived. Cacao Dark is to be taken 15-20 minutes before breakfast and lunch, and comes with a little dosage cup similar to cough syrup. The flavor is unusual, but chocolately and pleasant. I was pretty hungry when I took Cacao Dark for the first time, and it did seem to take the edge off my hunger, much like eating a piece of chocolate would. You know how our parents would always tell us not to snack before dinner, because “You’ll spoil your appetite”? Well, that’s a little how Cacao Dark works – except this time, we want our appetites to be spoiled!
The label purports that “Drinking 1 fl. oz of Cacao Dark 15 minutes before meals can lower the glycemic level of the food you eat, slowing the absorption of sugar. This will help result in more energy, better metabolism and more effective weight loss.” But these statements are just hype to me until they are evaluated by the FDA. I do think it’s great that each shot contains 6 grams of fiber – fiber is an important part of a healthy diet, and while I think you should aim to get your fiber through a nutritious diet, I like being able to boost my fiber intake with supplements as well. Just be sure to drink lots of water!
I have lost 12 pounds since July, and starting using Cacao Dark about a month later. However, my usage has been very inconsistent. For about 3 or 4 weeks, I had a great routine going where I was eating three meals a day and making nutritious food; during this period, I took Cacao Dark pretty faithfully before each breakfast and lunch. But when things get chaotic, my schedule gets disrupted and my good routine goes out the window – this is my biggest struggle with weight loss. Since then, I’ve been using it very sporadically (ie when I’m doing “Good” with the rest of my diet!!). I was sent two complimentary bottles back in August, and I wanted to give it a fair trial before writing about it. I’m about 1/4 through the second bottle now.
What I have done consistently since July is count my calories. I have a calorie counter app on my iPhone, and I use it to log my weight, exercise, and all food consumed every day. Although I often go over my ideal calorie allotment (OOPS!!), this method has been extremely effective in helping me keep on track. When I started taking Cacao Dark, I had already lost 4 pounds as a result of my efforts with eating better. So, I think it’s safe to say that anyone slashing their calories would lose weight – caffeinated chocolate or not.
The bottom line is that nothing can replace eating right, cutting calories, and staying active. What I can say is that, out of the diet supplements I have tried, Cacao Dark is the one that I feel has offered me the most benefit – and the only one I’ve stuck to using. I enjoy the flavor, the caffeine boost, and the fact that it is high in fiber; and I do feel that it can take the edge off my hunger.

I think I have to have this!
mmm chocolate 🙂 i can’t have chocolate though ’cause I get sick and uh.. spend all night in the bathroom xD
that sounds so interesting. I’m thinking this may be popular I mean who doesn’t like chocolate and my gosh I luv that bottle Great packaging!
Looks like a great item. Especially chocolate flavor…wow, this will definitely work for everyone. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I wonder how much sugar is in it? I find I can stick to a diet better if I cut back on the sugar – so I am not sure this would work for me. I actually don’t mind the Atkins shakes, they are also full of fiber, have no sugar and taste pretty good. Thanks for the post about this product. Congrats. on your weight loss!
This is something I would drink even if it didn’t have the weight management benefits.
Not sure if I would try it but you definitely make me think about it. I have been on a huge weight loss / health kick and this is something that sounds helpful. I appreciate your thoughts and will visit their site today.
Kristi, that’s a great question! According to the label, this has 3 g sugar per serving.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone!
Interesting! The packaging is really nice and I love chocolate! But caffeinated drinks make me jittery.
I love this stuff! I’ve used it in the past & loved it!
I thought this was a review for a Liquor when I saw the photo! But, any diet that involved chocolate – I’m on it! haha!
Okay, this sounds a little interesting….
I would love to try this minus the caffeine! Sounds interesting and I already incorporate 1 oz dark chocolate a day into my diet.
