Body Works Giveaway – Ends 08/07

Energy drinks aren’t something that Jai and I consume on a really regular basis, but I would say we drink them a few times a year when we’re in “Crisis mode” – slogging through a huge work project or other event that results in a lot of hard work and very little sleep. They never seem to do all that much for me, so I’m always on a quest to find new and better energy drinks. I’m also fascinated by the emerging market of “Relaxation drinks” containing natural sleep aids like melatonin and have really been wanting to give one a try. So when Body Works offered me a variety pack of shots from their line, it was the perfect chance: Not only do they carry an energy shot and a relaxation/sleep shot, but a selection of small drinks with different themes. There’s been no time like the present to give these a whirl with how chaotic our schedules have been, so Jai and I set about trying these out:

• Energy: We received multiple bottles of this, which was the first thing we gulped down! Honestly, it was hard for me to really tell a difference after taking this, since I felt like a 10,000 year old zombie before, during, and after; Jai told me that after drinking these, he didn’t feel more awake, but he didn’t feel tired, either.
• Sleep: This shot contains melatonin, which I regularly buy for sleep disruptions, as well as Valerian root and other ingredients. I was really looking forward to trying this one, because my sleep schedule has been so messed up with all the traveling and general chaos. After I took this, I was up until 3 AM, but my sleep schedule is so broken that I don’t blame the drink. I’d really love to try this again when my sleep schedule is only moderately whacked and not completely messed up. 😉
• Relax & Unwind: The concept of this drink intrigued me. It contains Valerian root, Skullcap extract, Passion Flower extract, and other ingredients; I took it during an evening where my nerves were feeling especially frazzled. I can’t say it really made me any less stressed.
• Sport: I gave this one to Jai to drink before he went on a run with grandma’s dog. He said he felt good before, during, and after the run; he couldn’t tell if it did anything, but said it didn’t hurt!
• Wellness: This one is recommended for long days doing things like sitting all day or traveling. That’s definitely me! I drank one in the morning before sitting in front of the computer to work all day. Again, I don’t know that it did much, but it didn’t harm anything either.
• Perform Under Pressure Shot: This is recommended for those anxious moments before big events. Jai is the coolest cucumber you’ll ever meet, but even he was fretting and chewing his fingernails before we did the big theme upgrade last week, so I gave him one of these! 😉

Our overall feelings were that we felt mostly the same after taking these. Jai said that he felt good after drinking these, but wasn’t sure if that was just coincidence, especially because he felt fine before drinking them anyway. I’m extremely caffeine resistant, so I think the Energy shots could potentially work better for someone who is more sensitive/responsive to it. I think the Sleep shots have more potential for me and as I mentioned, I’d really like to give them a go again later – I’m used to having lousy sleep, but this period of disruption is particularly resistant to any intervention, even by my standards!
