BackJoy

Oh, my aching back! It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and I’ve already thought this many times. Whether you’re anticipating sore muscles from preparing holiday feasts, or have someone on your list who complains of back pain, then you may be interested in a product like the BackJoy Posture+. This unique seat insert is designed with the aim of improving posture and reducing back strain. As luck would have it, I received a box containing a complimentary BackJoy in the mail during that awful cold we had a few weeks back, and Jai had been mentioning that his back hurt as a result. I immediately handed it to him and said, “Here, try this!”

Jai has been using this for the last few weeks, and is honestly ambivalent about it. It does change his posture while sitting, but he finds it puts strain on a different part of his back and isn’t very comfortable. I tried putting it to the test since I get a lot of lower back pain, and I have only tried sitting in it briefly; I don’t know if I’ll be able to use it for the long haul because I, too, find it puts strain on my back in a different way. It does correct my posture, which is likely why – even though my posture is better with it, I don’t think my body is used to sitting “Correctly”! I should probably use it for longer and see if my body will adjust, but my back and seat feel sore using it so it’s a bit too distracting. I don’t think this is the product for me, but depending on your back pain, it might be a big help; especially if posture is your issue. I think I will probably pass it on to other family members and see if they might benefit from it more than us.

The BackJoy Posture+ is available on BackJoy.com for $39.99.

  1. I could use this for when I sit at my desk. I think the strain on the other parts of your back when you’re using it is probably muscle fatigue from you back muscles that aren’t used to being utilized properly. When I try to sit with good posture my back tires quickly, but that is simply because I need to work at it and make my muscles stronger.
