Album Review: KSM – Read Between The Lines

Dubbed “The tween answer to No Doubt”, KSM are an all-girl band that deliver an energetic – and entirely charming – fusion of rock and bubblegum pop. These Disney darlings are the rocking counterparts to the Miley Cyrus set, who just finished touring with Demi Lovato and are now hitting the road with Hannah Montana star Mitchel Musso. The band’s members range in age from 15 to 18, and these teen titans play their own instruments and write their own songs – a breath of fresh air in this pre-fab era.

Their debut album, Read Between The Lines, is a collection of 13 rollicking power pop cuts. Upbeat, feel-good and fun, this album will capture the hearts of both the teen set and grown-up fans alike. It’s no secret that I adore unabashed pop, and KSM quickly won me as a fan. From the rocking anthem of “Permission to Party”, to infectious tracks like “Slow Motion” and the Boomtown Rats-inspired “Saturdays and Sundays”, Read Between The Lines is a solid effort that has been in heavy rotation on my MP3 player. I love their sassy “Girl Power” attitude and catchy riffs – KSM manage to guilelessly mix lighthearted lyrics about lipgloss and texting with rock sensibilities.
