Supergirl T-Shirt Review

By now, you probably realize that I’m a big comic book fan. The SuperMan universe was one of my favorites, so naturally I idolized SuperGirl! I have a memory from my very early childhood of being around 3 or 4 and seeing a novel adaptation of the 1984 Supergirl movie sitting on a table. I remember distinctly being so incredibly frustrated that I didn’t know how to read yet! 😉

Since I love both superheroes and Halloween, many of my costumes over the years have been of my favorite characters. So when I had the chance to review a complimentary costume from AnytimeCostumes, I naturally gravitated towards the comic book section. As I browsed, this costume caught my eye:

This is a Supergirl t-shirt with a removable cape. I was amused by the idea of a more comfortable costume for those who don’t feel like going all out, and I thought it would be fun to have a shirt I could wear outside of Halloween. Choice made, Supergirl shirt it was!

Once it arrived, I naturally had to try it on right away:

The shirt is pretty thin material – I haven’t laundered it yet, so I can’t say how it holds up for repeat wear. In my opinion, the sizing on this runs small – I received an XL, and it was quite snug. Not uncomfortable at all, I just feel self-conscious wearing form-fitting clothes at the moment. The curvy Supergirl form on the shirt almost looks like TOO much of a joke at my current weight! 😉 But, there is more than one way to wear this look:

Here I am wearing it under my suit jacket for the Clark Kent look! For me, this isn’t a costume, but a fashion statement. Yes, I have worn this getup outside the house, minus the wig. 😉 Because the cape is detachable, I thought the appeal on this would be having a fun t-shirt. The only downside is that when you remove the cape, it leaves two exposed velcro pieces on the top of the shirt that get caught on things, making it harder to wear casually. I think it might have been nice to include a covering for the velcro strips, or maybe attach the cape with a button or snap instead. Still, it’s a fun shirt for making a statement and the addition of a cape makes it a costume in a pinch – last minute Halloween party, anyone?!
