Can you believe that we have been on Nutrisystem for FIVE months already? WOW! It’s been a very eventful few months and we have a lot to be happy about. Check out the video above for this month’s reflections – and don’t mind my congested voice, I sound pretty funny this week because I’m all stuffed up with a cold! 😉
Beeb’s Weigh-In:
Starting Weight: 164.5 lbs
Week 20 weight: 141.4 lbs
Total Weight Lost: 23.1 lbs
Goal Weight: 110 lbs
We forgot to take our measurements on Saturday so we got them on Sunday instead! My measurements this week were 10″ on the arms, 38.1″ on the chest, 31.9″ on the waist, 39.1″ on the hips, and 18.2″ on the thighs. That’s 1″ down on the arms, .1″ up on the chest, .1″ down on the waist, and .3″ down on the thighs, with the hips remaining the same as last week.
Jai’s Weigh-In:
Starting Weight: 217.5 lbs
Week 20 Weight: 178.2 lbs
Total Weight Lost: 39.3 lbs
Goal Weight: 158 lbs
Jai’s measurements this week were 13.3″ on the arms, 40″ on the chest, 38″ on the waist, 37.5″ on the hips, and 21.4″ on the thighs. That’s .7″ up on the chest, .6″ down on the wast, .2″ up on the hips, and 1″ down on the thighs with the arms the same as last week.
This week, I lost .8 pounds. Yay! Meanwhile, Jai actually had his first-ever gain, gaining 1.4 pounds since last week. This is because we got hit with a really nasty bug this week and have been really under the weather. In the ten years I’ve known Jai, I’ve only seen him this sick maybe one or two other times. I get sick quite often so it usually doesn’t faze me, but this one was such a doozy that it really knocked me out. We were both a mess! So, neither of us were able to work out for most of the week because we felt too ill, and poor Jai felt more hungry because of being ill so he ate more of his SmartCarbs/PowerFuels than he would have normally. (I overate on some days, but being sick also killed my appetite on a few days so it seemed to balance out for me – ha!) I know he’s kinda bummed about the gain this week, but it doesn’t worry me. He has lost weight every single week for 19 weeks prior to this, so I’ve been telling him not to stress about it too much!
As for me, I’ve been especially happy with my weight loss the last few weeks. It’s no coincidence that my huge improvements in mobility have resulted in even better results each week, and I am feeling so healthy and good! Well, I don’t feel very healthy right now because of this cold, but you know what I mean. 😉 This week, I was able to do things that would have been impossible just a few short months ago. For example, we went scuba diving on Saturday – you’ll be hearing more about that soon! – so to prep, we went to our local pool on Monday before we got sick. It had been years since I was in a pool and I knew I needed to be able to swim 200 yards in order to scuba dive. I ended up swimming 400 yards – 200 of that continuously – and then I walked 1/2 mile directly afterwards. This is a huge deal for me – I mean, during the summer I was still struggling to walk long distances! I feel pretty unstoppable now and it’s amazing. Just having my mobility back would be elating, but the fact that I’m at a much healthier weight is so exciting on top of that. I am starting to see a difference in how I look and it’s amazing to feel like I can move around normally.
Oh, and I should also mention, that during our walk on Monday we ran into a friend that we hadn’t seen in a while and he was really commenting on our weight loss, especially noting how much difference he could see in Jai’s face. It’s fun to run into people who haven’t seen us recently and hear them notice the change – when you live with it on a day-to-day basis it becomes less noticeable, so it’s interesting to get that outside perspective!
Beyond the swimming and illness, we had an exciting week in a lot of other ways. There’s a ton going on this time of year! We hosted a hummus party, which was fun because we stocked up on a great SmartCarb (Hummus) and lots of delicious fresh veggies! I have to admit, I have slacked BIG TIME on eating my veggies recently. It’s silly, but when I take the time to actually chop and peel veg beforehand so it’s ready to go, I’m much more likely to grab it during the day as a snack. I know increasing my veggie intake helped a lot this week, and helped to balance out our off-plan moments while sick (And the lentil chips we ate during the party!).
Here’s to a fabulous 5 months – here’s to the start of month 6 on our journey!
