Being a die-hard coffee lover, I take great delight in trying new ways to prepare my favorite beverage. I’ve always been intrigued by Tassimo’s line of specialty coffee makers, so when they invited me to review their T20 Home Brewing System, I jumped at the chance. And one lucky Contest Corner reader will win a Tassimo T20 of their own, so read on!
The Tassimo T20 is a coffee machine unlike any other. Instead of brewing a full pot of coffee, Tassimo brews up beverages one cup at a time using special coffee pods, also known as T-DISCS. Tassimo’s machine actually reads the barcode on each T-DISC, which tells it what beverage it is preparing, what temperature it needs to be, whether it is a hot or iced drink – all you do is insert the disc and press one button, and Tassimo does the rest. This machine can prepare coffee, tea, cappuccino, latte, crema, espresso and hot cocoa, so it’s very versatile.
When I received my Tassimo, I couldn’t wait to try it out. I was drooling over the specialty coffees, and excited to have a single-brew machine – I often feel like a cup of coffee after dinner, but don’t want to make a whole pot.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how small and compact the T20 is – counter space is at a premium in my kitchen, so I love appliances that don’t take up much room. The setup was pretty straightforward – after we ran water through the machine to clean it, it was ready to start preparing drinks. My Tassimo came with two packages of coffee: Gevalia Signature Blend Coffee and Starbucks Cappuccino Primo. I decided to try a delicious Starbucks drink first!
The Cappuccino Primo comes with two discs: One is a milk creamer and one contains the espresso roast. You simply insert your favorite coffee mug into the Tassimo T20, insert the milk T-DISC, and press the start button. The T20 quickly pumps delicious, frothy steamed milk into your mug. You then insert the espresso T-DISC into the brewer, hit the start button again, and ta-dah! You have a delicious cappuccino.
The whole kitchen smelled wonderful – I love the smell of coffee! – and the drink was divine. It was ridiculously easy and fast to make!
My only reservation about this machine was the cost of the T-DISCs – it seemed to me like this would be a very expensive way to make coffee. However, before I even had a chance to use my Tassimo for the first time, I had already found a deal on T-DISCs – Amazon had a sale on Gevalia Black Iced Coffee T-DISCs where I got two 16-count packages, 32 T-DISCs total, for $5.00 shipped; that works out to .16 cents per cup. And by registering my machine online, I’m getting another two packages of coffee for free! So I’m a little more optimistic now that I may be able to find ways to save on T-DISCs in the future. Tassimo is a wonderfully indulgent treat for a coffee maniac like me!
