I recently shared with you how I made a special trip to Walmart to purchase items for local organizations working to help children in our community. Yesterday, we boxed up our items and dropped them off at their respective destinations:
These two boxes contained infant formula, nursery water, baby food, non-perishable tuna and fruit snacks, and personal care items.
This bag contained two youth t-shirts. For all the details on what I bought and how much it cost me after coupons, click here to view my Google+ story.
Jai and I loaded up the car and headed off to make our donations!
Our first stop was Lighthouse Christian Church, who run the Manna House food pantry. Because our aunt Kim is closely involved with this church, I often hear about their projects and what needs the Manna House has. A few years ago, she mentioned that they had a big need for personal care items, so I snagged a lot of free deodorant with coupons in order to donate to them. So, I thought it would be nice to benefit them with some of the items from this latest “Couponing For Good” project.
After we dropped off the food and personal care items for Manna House, we headed to Astoria High School to donate the two shirts. I had recently been made aware that this high school offers a “Clothing bank” where they provide clothing free of charge to students in need. Because I knew that Walmart carries inexpensive clothing in addition to grocery items, I thought it would be a great time to pick up some clearanced shirts for the students. The school has a basket by the front desk where they are collecting clothing items for their students, so we were easily able to drop off our donation.
If you’re a local reader in need, or if you would like to take a donation to benefit either of these organizations, here are the details for both of these charitable efforts:
